About the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers

Promoting the ethical, competent and licensed practice of engineering.

The Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE-KY) is made up of 13 chapters and 3 student chapters covering the state of Kentucky as part of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). Its Kentucky headquarters are in the Kentucky Engineering Center. NSPE-KY is the leader in the development of unity and focused resources across all engineering disciplines and organizations for influence upon public, legislative, and educational issues affecting the profession.

The current membership of NSPE-KY is a diverse and wide-range of engineering professionals from both the public and private sectors.

Our Mission

The mission of NSPE-KY is to promote the ethical, competent, and licensed practice of engineering, and to enhance the professional, social, and economic well-being of our members.

  • To advocate the application of engineering knowledge and skills for the public health, safety and welfare
  • To promote the highest standards of engineering education
  • To influence public policy
  • To foster society's understanding of the role of engineering
  • To communicate the importance of engineering licensure
  • To stimulate student interest in mathematics and science and encourage young people to enter the engineering profession
  • To represent the interests of all engineering disciplines

NSPE-KY Membership Options

A three-tiered membership was created through the partnership with NSPE on July 1, 2018 that gives you membership in NSPE (National), NSPE-KY (State) and your local chapter. Recent graduates can also take advantage of a graduated dues program for the five years following graduation.

Membership categories:

  • Licensed Member - You hold a valid license as a Professional Engineer in the US or Canada (or international equivalent) ($299 annually)
  • Member – An Engineer-In-Training or Engineering Intern or graduate of an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) (or international equivalent) ($299 annually)
  • Student Member – A full time student in an ABET accredited undergraduate or junior college program anticipating enrollment in an ABET accredited engineer program. (FREE!)

About the National Society of Professional Engineers

Since 1934, the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) has been dedicated to the non-technical concerns of licensed professional engineers. NSPE stands today as the only national organization committed to addressing the professional concerns of licensed PEs across all disciplines.

About Us

The Kentucky Engineering Center (KEC) is a modern and efficient professional home for Kentucky's Engineers.

Located in Frankfort, KY, KEC houses the American Council of Engineering Companies of Kentucky (ACEC-KY), the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE-KY), the Kentucky Engineering Foundation (KEF), a training lab, and meeting space.

KEC and its partner organizations support engineering education, promote the ethical practice of engineering, advocate licensure, and enhance the image and well-being of engineers in Kentucky.
