This four-hour session provides a basic overview of native Kentucky forest trees and how to recognize them in fall and winter. The program will be approximately 50% classroom study and 50% field investigations and will include:
- Basic morphological characteristics & tree identification terminology
- How to use a simplified dichotomous tree key using leaves as the primary field identification characteristic
- How to identify trees from bark, fruit and other useful field characteristics
- Tree Identification resources for Kentucky trees
- Interesting aspects of native trees that will help you remember them
- Ecological significance, habitat and forest structure
Lunch Will Be Provided.
